The 1961 FAMU Rattlers were arguably the best college football team most people have never heard of. Coached by Jake Gaither, the 1961 Rattlers won all 10 of their games and beat their opponents by an average score of 51-3. During a time of segregation when Florida's major universities didn't recruit black athletes, Florida A&M's roster was made up of the best African American football players in the State of Florida. The team was so deep in talent, future hall of famer and Olympic sprint champion Bob Hayes was a backup wingback.
